About Cedrics Place
My name is Claire Henderson and I've been making and upcycling my own clothing since I was given my first sewing machine, for Christmas, at the age of 11. Having a keen eye for colour and a very active creators brain, I'd regularly raid my mums wardrobe and linen cupboard for materials and no curtains were safe from me
(especially the gold velvet ones!)
Over the multiple careers and hobbies I've had throughout my adult life, sewing has always remained my constant 'first love', the one I've always come back to. So in 2022 after being diagnosed with a chronic health condition,
I decided that a change was in order - I wanted to work from home, on a schedule set by my wellness,
and I finally took the massive leap of faith and started offering my garments for sale to other people.
Every piece I make is unique and is handmade or upcycled by me in my Greymouth New Zealand studio.
Its just me - I source the materials, I design, I sew, I run my socials, I photograph completed pieces,
I measure my creations and list them here.
Then I wrap them up to send off to their forever homes with a little piece of me in every one of them.
Its not a fast process - but this is very much NOT fast fashion.
Cedrics Place is all about slow fashion with a purpose and sustainability for the planet.
Clothing from Cedrics Place is made almost entirely from reclaimed textiles. These gorgeous fabrics often come
to me by way of op-shopped (or thrifted) treasures, market-place finds and vintage-shop browsing.
I'm also very fortunate to have friends who gift me beautiful pre-loved textiles from time to time.
Every year 180,000 tonnes of clothing and textile waste is thrown away in New Zealand landfills.
That's equivalent to 6429 shipping containers of waste, or 34kgs per person every year.
Our beautiful planet is drowning in textile waste and I don't want to be a part of that.
I know that you don't either.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and
for supporting my tiny, home-grown, New Zealand business
